Hello, Recently I have been helping companies in Australia to take off estimated masses & lists of steel, they were steel supports for residential houses (I know its not as big as your tower example you have) I use Advance Steel to basically draw the steel without all the end connections, then I produce a material list & basic GA's for the client to check. we found this way to be the most accurate. Then length of time to do the job depends on how accurate & how much detail the client wants. I normally ask the client what his budget is then work to that, then everyone is happy Currently I do my Steel Layout & Shop Detailing on Autodesk Advance Steel/AutoCad. A lot of my passed experience has been primarily based on the mining industry (Structural Steel) right around the globe and consequently dealing with other countries standards.
