I am a new Freelance proof-reader from Australia.
My previous work was in an academic context. I worked in the Distance part of TAFE here in Queensland and edited & proof-read the learning materials from lots of sections as well as our own. My team itself was preparing adults for second-chance university entrance. It was all about typos, misspelled or misused words, faulty formatting and grammatical errors. Matched with that was the need for the materials to be inviting and make sense. I now notice those things automatically whatever I read, wherever I read it!
I have also been a keen reader for decades I really love being taken to another world with its particular characters, historical period, location, mores and social class by a novelist. I love the unexpected twists of plot lines that take a novel all to somewhere unexpected. And I love exploring the issues the writer is hooked on in the novel.
Novels use a different style of writing, of course, but the same basics of typos and misspellings etc! So, I see no difference in dealing with those things as successfully in a novel as I used to in learning materials.
I look forward to immersing myself in your novel at the same time as editing and proof-reading it!
