This project is an enhancement to an existing Java Web Start ScreenCapture app. The existing app contains a functional GUI, screen capturing with bitmap comparisons, and communications over HTTP. The aim of this enhancement project is to add VNC-compatible communications to the app, using the RFB protocol (specifications are easily found online, like [login to view URL]). ## Deliverables This enhancement gives the app the same functionality as the existing app (sharing a user's screen with another user, and allowing that user to control the first user's computer), the primary difference being that the RFB protocol would be used instead of HTTP. Please note that the really hard part (finding the change rect) is done. This job is just for the RFB communication protocol, and GUI elements to support it. You can expect this to include things like triple-DES for password exchange, TCP/IP sockets for communications, and bitmap compression/encoding according the the specifications in the RFB protocol document. The web start app should: * Upon the user clicking "start", the app should connect (technically, in VNC lingo, reverse-connect) to a VNC client at a given address using the RFB protocol. * Use the [login to view URL] API to grab screen captures, as often as possible. * Scan the captured bitmap for change rects, compress these using the Tight encoding scheme (basically, a JPEG rect), and transmit these to the client over the RFB protocol. * If the "allow remote control" checkbox has been checked, accept keystroke and mouse commands from the RFB stream and pass them to the host operating system using the [login to view URL] API. * Add an additional "Advanced Setting" or two for JPEG compression level (and whatever other settings are required by the TightVNC encoding scheme). These should default to settings taken from the JNLP file. * Add an additional "Advanced Setting" for the TCP/IP port to be used. These should default to settings taken from the JNLP file. * Any VNC client that supports the Tight encoding should be able to accept a connection from this app. * The RFB protocol requires that any VNC server support the Raw encoding type, so your code must support that as well. Support for other encoding types (i.e. Hextile, Zlib, RRE) is optional. If you plan to support these, we'd love it -- please mention this fact in your bid. We do not require a full bi-directional implementation of the protocol (i.e. a full VNC server and client in one java web-start app) although we'd like this work to be factored to easily allow that in a future enhancement -- that would benefit the VNC community greatly, and we'd like to give back. The app should be a Java web-start application that runs on current versions of Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The framerate should be at least 2 frames per second for a user on a DSL connection or better. The developer agrees to assist us in buying a digital signature and digitally signing the application. For testing, we will use the deliverable to reverse-connect to a standard VNC client (probably UltraVNC, TightVNC, or the TightVNC java applet). To receive the previous code and start work, you will be required to sign an NDA. You don't need an NDA to bid on this work, just to get the existing code. If needed, our artists will create any required artwork to your specification and deliver it in the format you request. Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. Variable names and comments must be in English. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition. A software? installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. This includes a digitally signed JAR file containing the class files and all required art, a JNLP file, and any other files necessary for a working Java web start application. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform The app should be a Java web-start application that runs on Windows XP, Mac OS X (Panther), and Linux (Fedora Core).
