I need a Microsoft Word expert

My name is Dennis Newton. I have been editing a word document. I have been having trouble trying to change Table description names. I was following steps from an online description on how to resolve the problem. The description stated to click Alt+F9 . I did that and my TOC was wiped out. I pressed Ctrl+Z to reverse the process but it did not work. I opened a different document and found out that the TOC in that document was also wiped out. When I recreate the TOC, the TOC is displayed and also{ TOC \0 "1-3" \H \Z \U}. The similar happens when creating tables and figures. Please contact me as soon as possible.
