PHP DATE and TIME. Easy Project!

I want a simple php page that can get the current time from server by click of a button, store it in variable_1(in such a way that it's understandable by humans and not some long float/binary complex set of numbers). Then later get a second time also from the system by the click of a second/or same button and store it in variable_2(just as above). Then calculate the difference between the two times (Elapsed Total Time Difference). And output all 3 values to browser (i.e. start-time, end-time, and elapsed-time) Next, give me a php/mysql statement to insert the current date in MMDDYYYY format in mysql field. Tell me exactly how to define this field/structure accepting this date in mysql. I want to be able to sort by this field. Lastly, give me a php/mysql statement to insert the current time in H:M:S format in mysql field. Tell me exactly how to define this field/structure accepting this time in mysql. I want to be able to sort this field as well. Try to make your code extremely basic so that a baby could understand it and detailed instructions about setting up DB date and time fields.
