The organization I work for has an initiative to deploy an OpenStack proof of concept in our lab environment. We as seeking expert guidance and advice with the deployment of this environment. This project is both assistance with the deployment of OpenStack along with a bit of education and training when it comes to best practices and deployments of the environment.
Our objectives:
• Have a working OpenStack environment in which internal testing and experimentation can be done by our staff.
• Consultant will need to assist with best practice configurations and be prepared to explain why they are best practice.
• We would prefer to stick with pre-compiled packages as much as possible (if/when possible or makes sense)
• Generate thorough documentation on the deployment process (we wish to have the ability to wipe the environment and recreate with ease if needed). We can do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to structuring and writing the rollout procedure, however will at minimum need your guidance to make sure everything captured.
• Once we have a working environment, we will likely destroy the environment and then rebuild it using the documentation that was created. We can do the heavy lifting when it comes to re-building the environment (we would like the experience), however should we run into issues, we may need your assistance with polishing and updating the documentation to get over hurdles we encounter.
• We will likely have questions regarding the deployment, configuration and usage of the OpenStack environment that you help create. Be sure to budget some time in your proposal for these types of tasks.
Other notes:
• For the most part we are a CentOS shop. We do understand that OpenStack has a large Ubuntu user group however and are willing to leverage that if needed. Be prepared to exercise additional patience when not leveraging CentOS however.
• This doesn’t need to be deployed overnight. Time zone differences and other factors may play a role in the speed that this POC gets deployed. Also, hardware related configuration changes to support testing/experimentation may require a bit of time to accomplish.
Components we would like deployed as part of the POC:
1. Swift
2. Keystone
3. Nova
4. Neutron
5. Cinder
6. Glance
7. Horizon
8. Ceilometer
9. Heat
Equipment available to the lab:
• 8x Servers with 12-Core + 48GB of Memory + 3 3.5” Disk Trays + 10gigabit Network
o These will work best for compute nodes and VM’s for OpenStack Components
• 8x Servers with 12-Core + 48GB of Memory + 12 3.5” Disk Trays + 10gigabit Network
o These will work best as storage nodes
• 72x 4TB HGST Disk Drives
• 24x 800GB Intel SSD
• 12x 2TB Samsung SSD
Hi,
I have 12+ years of experience on Linux and Windows servers especially built on VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms.
Recently I have done POC on OpenStack deployment for my present employer. I have deployed almost everything except horizon and heat.
I am specialized on system administration, design, deployment and troubleshooting.
I can be a good choice for this project.
Regards,
Shafiul
