Wordpress media upload error and contest script error

I have had my WordPress site up for a few years, and now I suddenly get an http error when uploading photos. I previous had a contest script on my site that worked fine but that also will not let me upload images without giving an error. I need someone to get to the bottom of this and also tell me what they did to fix it.
