Project updated: Now only the structure of the email book needed - no writing
I have started to write books for Kindle and here is my first book: [login to view URL]
I now want to publish a second book, to create a series. This second book will be "How to master your e-mail: Proven ways to handle e-mail like a pro" (that's the working title). My aim is for it to be perhaps around 10,000 words in the end (which I write), and to cover not only precise e-mail technicalities (CC and so on) but also connect it to mindfulness (don't open the email, focus on what is important, etc.).
I would like to start with a concrete project:
The outline of the book, i.e. the chapters and sub-chapters that would go into the book. I have an idea of sub-chapters but would like someone else to get this started. So I need a researched and well-functioning structure which I can base my writing on.
Here are some subjects that might go into the sub-chapters:
Inbox zero is not a goal in itself
File your emails, such as those who Requires action and those that Requires a response
Unsubscribe, but not via [login to view URL] since they steal mail
Turn off notifications
Stick to the point in your writing
Use very clear subject lines
Include just the ones that need to be included
Use rules in your inbox
Decide when during the day to check email, and stick to it
Teach others how to use email
Avoid checking it automatically - if it is urgent they will for sure tell you
Monotask: When you email, email (multitasking is bad for you)
Turn off the synchronization - decide when to get email
The more you send and the quicker, the more you receive
The email conversation is going bad? Talk to each other instead.
Forwarding an email to someone? Include a summary
Block people if needed so they can't email you
Email is not a task list or support function
Don't reply
Just look at your emails once
Reply within 1-2 minutes or just wait
Only open the emails you intend to act upon, otherwise the linger
Just say no to meetings, interruptions, and stuff. Decide what is important for you and then act according to it
Start the day by doing the hardest thing. Big blocks instead of small stones.
Install third-party tools like Boomerang Calendar and let them work
Meditate to know what is important instead of running after e-mail
5-minute journal to know what is important instead of running after e-mail
Decide which people and which content should be prioritized via the 80/20 rule (doing what's right instead of doing everything)
