Contest Brief

The subject matter involves one man (a thief) speaking to a common man. The author is open and eager to creative exploration of this general theme, but I do not want designs that depict the thief in a striped shirt, donning a black domino mask over the eyes, or a sack over the shoulder. I prefer subtle characterizations to cliché tropes. I also included a download of George Grosz’s “Lovesick Man” because I love the color scheme involved in that painting. I would enjoy any attempts to depict my thief in a manner somewhat similar to the character in this painting. (If this can be done without violating any copyright laws.)

Again, I am open to all creative interpretations, but to those that seek parameters, I imagine the thief speaking at a downward trajectory to the common man. The common man should be as common as possible. One final touch I would love the artist to add is a crescent moon in the backdrop. The crescent moon should be between the two individuals, and the points of it should almost accidentally appear to be coming from the mouth of the thief to the brain of the common man. I would prefer subtlety here, as the moon should be a distant backdrop. I would also love it if the artist can make the moon the color on the dog’s hip in The Lovesick Man.”

This is a nonfiction book titled: The Thief’s Mentality. Subtitle: A Collection of Essays. The author is Sean M. Riley.
