Wearable Health Tech - Product Design

We need you to design something people will want to wear! We are building a jaw movement monitor to help teeth clenchers managed their clenching habit. We need to place a EMG sticker on the jaw next to the ear (see square on picture) or, if they have facial hair, on the temple (circle location). See face location attachment.

The sticker itself can be skin tone or any color you choose or transparent exposing the electrodes. The sticker will be attached via a thin wire (can be any color or transparent sheath with silver colored wire) to a small amount of electronics that will be used to receive and transfer signals to the user's phone via Bluetooth. The user will use this device during the day and it will need to be comfortable to be worn for up to 12 hours.

We are initially considering housing the electronics behind the ear in a similar manner to a wireless sports ear bud clip i.e. without the actual ear bud. See attached photo of a Power Beats Pro Bud for reference. However the point of this competition is to find the optimal solution so please don't limit your thinking to an outside of ear clip.

Our wearers are young to middle age professionals, they will be out in public wearing our device. We are open for concepts that aim make the device as inconspicuous and hidden as possible or make a statement that the wearer is proud to be wearing modern health technology. It's up to you!

We will be using these initial designs for customer validation testing. If we like working together there may be follow on work to iterate the design post customer feedback.

    A few questions about size of the components. Here is what I can share:

    Sticker: We need the sticker to be a minimum of 20mm across, either a circle or square.

    Main Housing: We don't have final dimensions, some of the PCB layout will depend on the housing design. We have similar (slightly less) components to the typical earbud but will be using more standard components so may not be able to get quite as small. Right now we are looking for conceptual designs so they don't need to be manufacturing level accurate.
