AUDITION GUIDE
Candidates are asked to record a brief instructional presentation, known as an audition, as part of Kaplan’s faculty selection process. This guide will help you prepare for your upcoming audition and provide you with a checklist of tasks to complete prior to recording your audition.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate your effectiveness in leading a successful Kaplan NCLEX-RN review using the following criteria:
• Clarity • Effectiveness and organization • Student involvement • Comfort presenting • Time management • Professionalism
PREPARATION
Practice Your Presentation: During your audition recording you will be given four separate prompts. The first two prompts will be an opportunity to tell us about yourself and your availability. (3 minutes) The next two will ask you to demonstrate your ability to guide students through the critical thinking process using the NCLEX style questions posted below which will include the question, answer choices and rationales (5 minutes each).
Plan Your Broadcast Location: You will need access to a webcam, mic, and a high-speed internet connection during your audition. You should also choose a location that will be quiet and allow you to focus when recording your audition. Dressing in business casual attire is encouraged.
RECORDING YOUR AUDITION
Logging In to Record: Log in by clicking on the link provided in the Audition Invitation. This link will direct you to a platform called “Take The Interview” where you can register and complete your recording.
Starting and Completing Your Audition: Upon entry, there will be a thorough tutorial to acclimate you to the “Take the Interview” platform where you’ll be recording your audition. The entire process, including preparation beforehand, the tutorial, and recording of your audition, should take approximately 30-40 minutes.
Your Delivery: For your audition, imagine yourself presenting to a classroom of students during your recording. Kaplan classes are instructional and fun, so you are encouraged to smile and enjoy yourself to enhance your lesson. Do your best to engage the audience on the other end of the camera. While you are welcome to incorporate visual aids into your audition, it is neither required nor expected.
