Hi! I've done this in the past, it is not very complicated to sniff the traffic. The cross platform aspect is achieved easily with Python and libpcap which SHOULD have identical interfaces on all platforms. I tried it on Windows XP and it worked very well. libpcap is the library Wireshark is built on and I would say that it is pretty reliable. I can deliver this in 2 days. A few hours to get up and running with the sniffing with libpcap+python then a few more hours depending on the complexity of the parsing you need. Formatting and Compressing are built-in features from Python so a few lines of code should do it. Encrypting is a bit more complex depending on the algo you want. There is a package called pycrypto that can handle it. The SQL handling would also require another dependency, but this is well tested stuff so there should not be any problem there. I will then need another day to test the "cross platform" aspect
