Instead of building your own from scratch which requires a lot of work I suggest we use some open source tool which I have used earlier and I think it matches your requirement of dashboard showing current status of machines connected via any messaging protocol

I have been developing IOT cloud severs for quite lot of automation companies. I basically deal with embedded system hardware and connect them to cloud through MQTT and HTTP.
