Ds pdf viewer is a C program for presenting slide decks from a pdf file. The main feature is to split pdfs down the middle - one side containing notes, the other the slide content and display each half on a different screen. It is an open source project available on github [login to view URL] but has not been maintained properly for ~3 years I would like it rebuilt in python so that I can maintain it myself and hopefully attract other maintainers. The resulting project will be open sourced on my own github account (or a dedicated organisation) The code uses poppler for reading/manipulating pdfs and qt5 for displaying them, both are available as python modules, so it should be fairly straight forward to port the glue code contained in dspdf viewer into python. The deliverable should include instructions for installing on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Hi, I have more than 15 year experience with C (and C++) and more than 10 years with Python. I used to work a while on GNOME and Freedesktop projects fixing bugs and improving performance. I also have a couple of Python and C++ opensource projects on github, I would be glad to work on something else. Project will have to be done in Python 3, right? I will be able to describe instructions for Linux and Windows but I don't have access to a Mac.

Do you want exact replica or just similar functionality? Do you have any plans on switch technologies like using MuPDF instead of Poppler, and maybe something else instead of Qt. It is not a problem, just trying to figure out how much work it will take and what might be some problems. Will you require any support or you can just take it off from where I leave?
