I understand that your Joomla, VM backup site is not working on digitalocean hosting so yes probably it is somehow related to compatibility issue, please allow me to check and fix this issue. Hi. Joomla Akeeba backup's are realized in severals ways so if you've realized a full backup, your complete site and database will be integrated into backup file, but be adivce you will be need some points: same domain, same php variables, same libraries. Maybee restired site is missing some libraries or your new server have differents php version. I can help you restoring your site. Jus a few questions for you: a) Are you using a shared hosting in your old server and your new server? b) Do you have ssh acess to your new server? Open to questions.
