I receive a CSV file every day that contains data for large trades in the United States financial market. I would like to take this daily file and place it in a database. From there, I would like to have a tool that identifies whether each trade (every line in the file) was bought or sold. The overall goal is to have a tool that sorts through over 30,000 lines of data, identifies the biggest trades, and then aggregates that data. I am hoping to generate a daily summary of trading activity broken down by stock ticker symbol. Additionally, it would be great if I could easily pull adhoc reports showing trading activity for a certain stock within a specific time frame. I am open to ideas of how to complete this whether it's using mySQL and Access, or something entirely different. The solution must consist of using free or low-cost tools/applications. I will provide criteria as far as classifying whether a trade was bought or sold and how to aggregate the data.

Although you mention databases as the primary tool to implement what you describe in your brief I would go for another approach. Excel manipulates csv files more efficiently than Access in terms of analyzing trends, This is due to having powerful tools like Pivot Tables and Charts as well as macros that can automate repetitive tasks, like the ones you describe. An Access database can store upto 2gb of data and give you smoother performance Process: forms would have buttons to fulfill your requirements. Click on import button and select the file. It will import your all data into a table with import date. Using query make your output result and export into excel. I have excellent command here.
