Hi, Rather than re-do the wheel, I would use an existing player controller and map your model/animations to it. Unless there is anything more advanced you need from it. I would probably use an asset something like Ultimate character controller for it, it may be overkill in your case, but would allow for greater flexibility in the future, it's also one of the smoothest and most advanced character controllers out there.
