I have been able to setup a Raspberry Pi to work as a WiFi hotspot with captive portal. The tutorial that I have followed was this: [login to view URL]
All the packages are working as they should. I can create users and users can login at the captive portal. Because the Raspberry Pi is connected to an internet connection with less bandwidth, I would like to use Squid as a transparent proxy to cache data often visited.
Right now the WiFi hotspot with captive portal will only direct authenticated clients to the internet. Clients that are connected to the WiFi hotspot, but aren’t authenticated, must not be able to go on the internet. This must be the same after Squid is integrated.
Freelancers can have my image that I am using on the Raspberry Pi, and work on that. Image has been compress with 7zip. After integration of Squid, I must be able to download the modified image from the freelancer and test is. Or I can provide access to the Raspberry Pi through Teamviewer.
The Raspberry Pi is connected to a Huawei MiFi 3G/4G router, and provider of 3G/4G connection don’t allow fixed public IP or Port Forwarding, so the Raspberry Pi can’t be access directly from the internet.
The job is consider done when:
a) the freelancer can proof that squid is properly working together with Coovachilli Hotspot, so clients can access the login page, and when clients are authenticated, clients are redirect to use the internet, and let me see that caching is enable.
b) the freelancer can provide a tutorial documentation, wherein every steps are documented to integrate squid, so that I am able to use this documentation to integrate squid on different Raspberry Pi.
Please do only bid if you’re very experience with Linux networking, IP tables rulesets, Squid as transparent proxy, Coovachilli and have done something similar on a Raspberry PI.
