In my company, the standard for google docs is to have, under the title, a line that looks like this: Status: v1.0 | DRI: My Name | Updated: Some date This is manually updated every time someone updates the document. It strikes me as inefficient. Google Docs support (what looks like) Javascript scripts, so I'd like some sort script that automatically updates this; the idea would be that we'd have: Status: v1.0 | Original author: Bob | Latest author: Alice | Latest Modification: DATE Where "Status: v1.0" is still manually managed, but the rest is automatically populated from version history of the document.

Hi there, So yes, Google Apps Scripts can solve your problem. It seems to me that you want a solution that is valid across your domain, such that the script can update the names for Google Docs used by your domain members. We can create a Google Apps Script and deploy it as a web app accessible by your domain users, then each user wants the script to be effective inside his Drive, he can open the app and authorize the script to access their Drives, then the script will run using a time driven trigger every 5 or 15 minutes, scan the Drive for all Google Docs files and update their names based on the last updater, last update date and author. This is the best workflow I have thought of that will be suitable to your case. I will be happy to address any of your questions! Sincerely, Mohamed

Hello potential client! I have over 6 years of experience working with Google Apps Script, so I’m sure I could take care of this quickly. The Drive API exposes file owner, last modifying user name, and last modified date, which it sounds like is all you need. By GDoc, you mean a document (not a spreadsheet), correct? And by below the title, do you mean in the header, or elsewhere in the document. I look forward to potentially working with you. Feel free to get in touch with any questions or concerns! -Ryan

Hi, I did some quick research and coding to see if this can be done. Limitations of the Google Apps Script API means this can't be done in a straightforward way, but in the process I figured out a solution that possibly works for you. This is easy enough. Please get in touch if you'd like to hire me. P.S. I'm new on Freelancer, therefore have an unimpressive blank profile, but I'm a JavaScript expert nonetheless.
