Provide illustrations for experiment on gamification

Hi, The aim of this job is to produce illustrations for a lab experiment about gamification. CONTEXT I am part of a team that want to conduct a social science experiment, in which we try to assess the impact of gamification on motivation and performance on a simple and repetitive task. In this task, subjects will see 5 letters on the screen, and they have to form a word with these letters (for instance, if they see “tneea”, one correct answer is “eaten”). They will do that during an hour, with the possibility of taking a break of up to 15 minutes. After 1 to 3 words found (words arrive in “packages” of 1 to 3 words, generated randomly), they will go through a transition screen before going to the next package of words. Gamification will be implemented on this transition screen. Two types of gamification treatments are tested: in one case, they earn badges, in the other case, they “build” a city, so they will see houses, shops, … appear as they work (like an extremely simplified city builder game). In the “badge” treatment, we want to give badges so that subjects feel rewarded. It doesn’t necessarily make the task more enjoyable in itself, but it is supposed to make them feel recognized – and since it is the most often way to apply gamification, it seems important to test this. As for the “city-building” treatment, we want people to feel like they build something, in order to make the task more enjoyable in itself and to provide a feeling of doing something that “matters”. YOUR JOB Your job will be to provide the visual assets needed for the experiment, as well as help with the design of those visual rewards so that they fit with what we try to achieve (for instance, how do we make it so that receiving a badge is as rewarding near the end of the experiment as it is near the beginning). Output should be .svg, or pictures (.jpg, .png, …). We are using z-tree HOW YOU SHOULD APPROACH THE JOB Given the limited budget for this job, I do not expect you to hand-draw everything. You do not even need to own the rights to the assets that you provide, since they will only be viewed by about a hundred students in a lab. And we do not have any clear opinion on the visual theme we want, what matters is that it is consistent (we can’t just throw together a bunch of things randomly found across the internet). This job will likely be most profitable for you if you already have a library of assets that you can just re-use and adapt for the project. REQUIREMENTS People who show that they have read the proposal well and who can already come up with solutions will have a much better chance of being hired. The ability to come up with the best solution under high constraints will be important. I am not looking for someone who will blindly do what he/she is told, but rather someone who can understand what we want to do, and who I can talk with in order to find the best way to implement the two types of gamification described above.
