I want to create a monthly newsletter on the latest in The Economy and the Pet Industry. *This would cover the time period from February 18 to March 13. So, due date would be on March 13. *This newsletter has 2 parts -- one is focus on the latest trends in the pet industry in the U.S. and the second is focused on general trends in the U.S. economy. So, I am looking for: ***Broad pet industry trends (like new product trends, pet owner or pet population trends, merger & acquisitions, etc.). I also include some quick information as it relates to recalls and new pet food products. I am only interested in pet industry news that pertains to the Pet industry as a whole or to the dog and cat categories. I’m not interested in other kinds of pets for this report. ***Broad economy trends, including economic indicators from the U.S. economy and a general article on how the economy is doing. Here's how I usually do it. (I'm providing a lot of detail so you'll have a cheat sheet for what I'm looking for). 1. For general pet industry, I typically look through the following sources: Pet Product News ([login to view URL]) Pet Age ([login to view URL]) Pet Business ([login to view URL]) and Petfood Industry ([login to view URL]) 2. For pet recall news, I typically look at these sources: [login to view URL] [login to view URL] 3. For new products, I look at the aforementioned sources in #1. I try to keep it to products that were just announced. Sometimes the industry publications will put something in about a new product launch, but they are often a few months late. But if in doubt, just include it. 4. THEN, rather than quoting and linking from the Pet Product News article (or Pet Age or Pet Business or Petfood Industry), I try to find the original source of the story and quote from there. It's typically a press release or a blog post on the website from the company that originated the story. Sometimes there's an original story on another site like Wall Street Journal, Reuters, New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, etc. 5. I also look for feature articles in the aforementioned sources. So, if Pet Age (or any of the other 3 sources in bullet #1) ran an article this month on the grain-free pet food trend and its their original article, I'll put in a link to that article. 6. I usually have a headline describing the info, one or two lines introducing the research, and then a quote from the article or press release. I usually indent the quote so I know it's the quote. And/or, I put it in quotation marks. 7. I usually put the source link in the end notes or in the text, depending on how much more there is worth reading in the source material. I usually put it in the body if I'd like to encourage the reader to visit the link to get even more details that I have not included in my report. It goes in the endnote if I've told the reader most or all of what they need to know about the topic. 8. The ECONOMIC DATA SECTION is simply cut and pasted from various mostly government websites (especially [login to view URL]). The links are usually in the Endnotes, but sometimes in the text. 9. Please make sure you pay attention to formatting and fonts. I'd like to keep it the same as I've done in previous Alerts. 10. Please do a few entries first and check in so we can be sure we're on the right track. 11. The time period for articles for this report should be February 18 through March 13. 12. This project usually takes me 4-7 hours to complete. It may take you a little longer, but hopefully not too much more. 13. I have attached a few recent newsletters I did so you have a sense of the kinds of examples I typically include. You can change the dates on one of these alerts and use it as a template for this project.
