I have an Excel spreadsheet with five tabs. All the headers are already setup and the first row of each sheet contains an explanation of what kind of data should be entered under that heading (i.e., under the Location header, it would say "City"). The purpose of the spreadsheet is to help analyze the Texas construction market. Let me go over what each tab is about and what's needed there:
1.) In the Construction Companies tab: This will be a list of construction companies/general contractors in Texas. I already got a lot of this started. To do so, I used ENR (Engineering News Records) top 400 list available online. Under the company header, write the name of the company that has an office in Texas OR is headquartered in Texas. Finding this requires either use of the ENR lists available via a Google search, or whatever other resources can be found. Under Location, write the city (in Texas) where the office is located. Under Headquarters, write the city name where the company's headquarters is located at. Under Revenue, write the dollar amount in either millions or billions that the company makes annually. Under National Projects, write the total number of national projects the company has (try to find this data, but if you cannot find it, it’s okay). Same thing for Regional Projects. For Significant Projects, see if there are any particularly large or unique projects in the United States that the company is working on. For the ENR Ranking header, see the ENR Top 400 list available online. If no ranking is available for that company, just write N/A. Don’t worry about the “Uses Consultants” or “Aegis Client” headers.
2.) In the Construction Market tab, and under the City heading, enter the major cities in Texas. These would include: Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Fort Worth, Irving, McKinney, El Paso, Plano, Corpus Christi and Arlington. Enter these city names under the City heading. For each of these cities, try to find the approximate dollar amount of construction dollars spent annually in the most recent year you can find data for. Enter that amount in dollars under the Construction Dollars Tab. Then, try to find the total number of construction projects in that city and enter the number under the Number of Project Heading. And then, if you find any particularly large or unique projects (i.e, an airport or large hospital, for example, please enter it under the Significant projects header.
3.) In the Competition tab, we want to find out about other project controls companies in Texas. Project Controls means we help ensure that construction projects run smoothly. The key to finding these companies is to search either by “construction project controls” or “construction project scheduling” companies. When companies that do this, that are located in Texas are found, enter their company name under the Company header. Under the location header, enter the city in Texas where the company is located. Under the Coverage Area, enter Regional if the company just appears to work with clients in Texas. Enter National under that header if they work with clients throughout the U.S. Under size (Employees) enter the number of employees if you can find that data. Under Revenue, enter the dollar amount per fiscal year for the most recent year you can find data for. Don’t worry about the Key Products/Services or Notes header.
4.) in the Aegis Overhead tab, take the cities that were entered in the Construction Market tab and enter those city names under City. For Union presence, research if this city has construction unions or not. If they do, write yes under the Union Presence header, and no if they do not. The next wstep will require some research. Enter the average Buildout cost per square foot in dollars for that city and enter it under the Buildout Cost per Sq. Foot header. Then find out the Rental Cost per Sq. Foot and enter it the dollar amount per Sq. Foot.
I recognize this job is complex and not your average data-entry job. It requires a lot of research and data-entry. This will require diligence and resourcefulness.
