Marking one or more DOM elements as draggable is part of a work I did many projects. To actually make the drag and drop functionality and visually appealing to the end user we need to handle certain events. We can use event handlers to these events in two ways viz. in the DOM element markup using onxxxx syntax or using JavaScript. Most of the times dragging something and dropping it onto something else also calls for transferring some data between the source and the target elements. To accomplish this data transfer HTML5 provides the DataTransfer object. The methods of DataTransfer object are effectAllowed, dropEffect, setDragImage(), setData(), getData(), clearData(). Using drag and drop features, you can drag an HTML element and drop it onto another. In the process, you can also pass data from the source element to the target element. Integrating drag and drop with server-side processing allows you to provide the rich user experience. Also, we can do it by using HTML Web API. In HTML 5, an element can be made draggable using draggable=true in the markup. To monitor the process of drag-drop, we need to make use of the following events: dragstart, drag, dragenter, dragleave, dragover, drop, dragend. We can implement the process by these elements:- 1>The source element applied with attribute draggable=true. 2>The data payload which means the data to be dragged and dropped. 3>The target where the drop is made.
