I work for a small Land Surveying firm and we have lots of monitoring projects which generate a lot of data. As of right now we manually insert the data into an excel spreadsheet This is a time-consuming process. We would line an Excel application (written in VBA) that will import our data as a text file and fill in the proper values. I am including a blank report as well as a report that has already been filled out for reference.
When we start a monitoring project we will go to the site and place targets on soldier beams (1 to 300+ targets). We then measure these targets with an X, Y, and Z coordinate. These beams are typically located around the perimeter of a new building, are sequentially numbered, and are drilled deep into the ground While the basement of the building is excavated we monitor the beams each week for horizontal (in and out) and vertical (up and down) movement. We use an AutoCAD application to insert the coordinate points and generate a station report. The station report is a text file that contains a station number (length from pile#1), left or right offset, and cut or fill. This data is then inserted into excel.
What we need is to have the text file imported into excel with a file open dialog. There should be a checkbox to indicate this is an initial monitoring in which case the file will need to be processed differently. The stations must be matched to the correct pile numbers (the stations will be ± 1 foot). The data must be inserted into the correct columns. Any piles that do not have Data will be correctly labeled as “N/A”. Any stations that are repeated more than once will be “NEW BASE”. If the checkbox was checked that indicated an initial monitoring then all piles will be “BASE” and the correlation between station numbers and pile numbers will need to be established. Measurements will also need to be averaged from week to week. Any numbers that are outside of a specified tolerance will need to be flagged (preferably with a differing cell color). When don the document will need to be saved as a PDF file.
