30 English Business Lessons with translation in French Here is an very easy job for all English speakers that also speaks French. So job is to create 30 business English lessons with a short story in English (that would be then translated in French), then a few vocabulary words explained, then a basic grammar lesson; and finally a quick exercise. The aim of the project : I manage a French Marketing Blog, and I want to offer to my French readers 30 free English business lessons to improve their English. The aims is to give them the basics of English. Structure of an English Lesson Here is how the 30 lessons should look like: - Title of the story in English + Translation of the Title of the story in french - Short Story in English (at least 400 words or 30 lines of text) + Translation of the Short Story in French - 10 to 20 words of vocabulary explained. It must be mainly business words / expression, or few days to days vocabulary. - 1 grammar lesson : irregulars verbs, plurals, difference between US / UK English… with 2 examples. - 1 exercise of 5 to 10 questions : fill the blank with the vocabulary of the verbs, choose between 2 words that looks the same, … The vocabulary to learn must be English business vocabulary. The aim is to give to readers all the basics words of business English. Example of a lesson in the word document joined Rights : All these texts must be royalties free, not copied from other web site… and will be my property. They must be in perfect English and French. There can be slang words, bu explained from 1 characters to the other. ## Deliverables **Structure of an English Lesson** Here is how the 30 lessons should look like: - Title of the story in English + Translation of the Title of the story in french - Short Story in English (at least 400 words or 30 lines of text) + Translation of the Short Story in French - 10 to 20 words of vocabulary explained. The aim is to give to readers all the basics words of business English. **Example of a lesson (just for example)** **The First Day in a new Job / Le premier jour dans un nouvel emploi !** Mark is arriving for his first day in Ultimate ERP. He parks his car outside the office of "Ultimate ERP", then arrive at the entry at the same time as another guy. - Hello, I am Mark, the new Key Account Sales Rep - Hi, I am Ludovic, I am the presales that make the demonstration of our ERP "Ultime ERP". So as you are new, I will show you the office. - Here is the coffee machine, it is 0,30 ?'? the coffee, choose Cappucino, the others are awful ! - I only drink tea, I don't like coffee. - So you will have to ask Sandrine, The secretary, she likes coffee too. - At your left there is the office of Henry, our CEO. I suppose you already know him ? - Yes we met before when he recruited me. I made 4 recruit sessions to be hired ! - Whouaa, that is quite much… I have heard they had lots of good candidates. What did you do in your previous job ? - I was working for a big corp, but I was tired of living in Paris, and I wanted to come back to Bordeaux. - Really ? You used to live in Bordeaux ? - Yes I studied in the University of Bordeaux. Then I went to Paris, and I work 5 years for "International ERP Corp". And me and my wife are coming back now to the sources ! - Okay, is coming Guillaume, the finance guy. He is quite strict, but he managed well with the figures, and thanks to him we are paid every months on time ! His office is before the toilets. - As it is 9h30, Fred will arrive very soon. He is an internet addict, he spends it nights on the Web ! - Oh very Good, I am a big internet fan too ! I have a Blog about my passion : the wine ! - That is interesting; I am a wine expert, my father use to make some wine near Bordeaux. If you are interested we could go the next Wine Tradeshow ? It will take place in 2 weeks. - Yes, I would be a pleasure. Could you drop me in email with the exact date and I will see is I am free ? My wife Sarah may come with us with my son Sebastien. - OK. I will let you know today. - Hey look, Henry is arriving at the office. I think he will present you the team. Have a nice 1st day, See you soon. - Bye ! **Traduction française :** Marc vient tout juste d'arriver dans son nouveau travail. Il vient de garer sa voiture en face de l'entrée des bureaux d'Ultimate ERP. Il arrive en meme temps qu'une autre personne. - Bonjour, Je suis Marc le nouveau commercial Grands comptes. - Salut, je m'appelle Ludovic, Je suis l'avant vente qui fait les demonstrations de notre logiciel "Ultimate ERP". Comme tu est nouveau, je vais te faire le tour du propriétaire. *…………. Translation to be completed…….. It is just an example……………..* **Vocabulaire :** Sales Rep = Sales Representative = Commercial Key Account = Grand Compte ou Compte Clé Pre Sales = Avant Vente CEO = Chief Executive Office = DG = Directeur Général Trade Show = Salon Professionnel To be hired = Etre embauché Corp = Company = Entreprise He is quite strict = il est plutôt coincé Internet addict = accro d'internet I am a big Internet fan = je suis moi aussi passioné d'internet *…………. Vocabulary of the texte to be added if possible…….. It is just an example……………..* **English Grammar Lesson : "A" et "An"** "A" et "An" signifient tous les deux "un" ou "une". Généralement "a" s'emploi devant les consonnes (a guy) et "an" devant les voyelles (ex: an excellent trip). Il y a des exceptions, en particulier devant les mots commençant par "H" (ex: an Happy Girl, an unsual question…). *…………. Grammar lesson to be completed…….. It is just an example……………..* **Exercise** : Fill the blanks with a or an: - Jenny is ___ Girl(1), but she has ___ unsual (2) dog. - I am __ serious (3) employee. I don't go home my the work is done - I don't want __ umbrella (4), we are in the middle of summer ! - Guillame is quite __ uninteresting (5) guy… He is only passionate by his collection of stamps ! - __ new worker (6) should arrive everyday before 9h. Correction : a (1) ??" an (2) ??" a (3) ??" an (4) ??" an (5) ??" a (6) *…………. Exercise to be completed if possible…….. It is just an example……………..* **The story Telling :** The Story : Marc, a new sales rep for a French ERP software company in Bordeaux "Ultimate ERP", is recruited to sell the ERP software to others countries. He is married to Sarah, and have 1 son called Sebastien. The short story can be a dialogue between Marc (the "hero") and his teammates, or talking to himself. He mades his demonstration with a IT guy Ludovic. They become friend. It can be humorous with jokes, fun…. Examples of story to tell for the 30 lessons (you don't have to stick to it, it is the big lines): 1. A new guy arrive in the company (Marc) and is in charge of selling the software worldwide. He introduce himself and telling what he has done before (selling software for a worldwide software editor) … 2. Henry, The boss is explaining the product of the company : selling accountancy software (ERP software)… 3. Sandrine, The secretary is explaining her job to arrange appointments… 4. Fred, The Marketing guy is explaining his job how to sell a product… 5. Guillaume, The Finance guy explains his job to manage the money… 6. Ludovic, The engineer, is explaining his job of creating software, that he also will help him with the demo of the products.… 7. His teamates sales rep explain their jobs of contacting customers, make goods, call them… 8. Marc is going to his office and is given a computer, a new phone… 9. Marc is setting up a meeting with everybody in the company to get trained on the product 10. Marc is receiving his first lead : The "Big Corp" in London who wants a demo (the contact is Mr Big). 11. Marc is trying searching information on the web (Google, Linkedin) about the company to adapt the software for the lead (activity, the name of the lead, his hobbies…). 12. The customer is Ok for a demo next week in London, so Mark is preparing his trop (flight, hotel…) 13. Mark call the hotel and is booking a single room for him and Ludovic the IT guy. Their order for dinner and breakfast. 14. Mark & Ludovic go to the aiport with a taxi ordered by Sandrine, but he is late and they take the plane at the last minute ! 15. Mark & Ludovic arrive in Heathrow aiport and take a cab to their hotel in center London (The Majestic Suite). The taxi is asking some questions about their jobs. 16. Marc & Ludo rehearse a little before the meeting in the morning : who will talk, how to sell the product, the benefit compared to the competitors, the price… but there is a little bug in the software when you click on the "Web Publishing" button which allow to create with 1 clic a Web Site linked to the ERP, so they have not to click on it. 17. Marc & Ludo arrive at the Big Corp Office, and are asking for Mr Big. 18. Marc & Ludo are going out of the office, and are talking about the demo : all went well, the customer didn't want to see the " Web Publishing " 19. Coming back at the office, Mars is creating a quote for Big Corp. It is 10 000 ?'? for the software plus 12 000 for customization & training. He send the quote by email. A planned to call him back in 2 days. 20. Mark call the customers and is granted a second appointment next week to discuss more about the price, the payment, the days of training, who does what… 21. Mark is going with Ludo in London again. Ludo knows a good friend in London, who know a good pub in London to have few drinks. He promised that it will be just an easy party. 22. Mark & Ludo meet Michael, the English friend of Ludo. They begin to drink pints of beer, and finally it is 1 o'clock in the morning and they have to wake up at 7 to be at 8 at the office. 23. Mark is waiting Ludo in the waiting room ot the hotel, but Ludo is not ready. He calls hims with the phone og the help desk, and finally Mark is awaken. They are in a hurry. 24. Mark and Ludo grab a taxi and arrive just on time to he Big Corp Office. 25. Mark & Ludo are going back to the airport, discussing about the meeting, all went good espciallly when the customer wanted to the function " Web Publishing ", but all went ok because Ludo fixed the bug just 2 days before. 26. 1 week later, the customer place the order, Mark went to Guilaume office with the order to create the invoice. 27. There is champagne at the office, everybody is drinking because it is a good deal for the company, and the 1st sale for Mark. Mark makes a short speak saying that the product is good, Ludo is good for the demo… 28. Marc is making a marketing campaign calling all the old customer to sold the " Web Publishing " function who will allow the customers to create customized web site linked to their ERP to sell their products on line easily. He write a call script, a product sheet, a flash demo… he wants to propose this idea to Fred the Marketing Guy. 29. Fred is Ok for this : they will make a special Trade show of 1 day for theirs existing customers, plus all leads. The will send everybody a paper, mailing, an emailing, an Smsing… and finally all sales reps will call the the attendees. The marketing plan will be a killer sale ! 30. After the Trade Show all when well : the demo of Ludo was perfect, the speech of the director was convincing, the flyers and sales tools were perfects… And 5 customers wants already to buy the new version of the software. Happy End ! **Rights :** All these texts must be royalties free, not copied from other web site… and will be my property. They must be in perfect English and French. There can be slang words, bu explained from 1 characters to the other.
