Submarine life on US Naval Nuclear Submarines. We carried Special Units on-board that we called spooks because we couldn't go near them and they could kill us with a coffee cup. We traveled to places like the North Pole where we broke our periscope. We traveled inside the sea of Russia to take bottom readings. First Nuclear Submarine to visit Japan since WWII and Perth, Australia also. The amount of stories that could be told is enough to fill 50 5 min u-tube vids. Laughter, scary, dullness, starvation, exploration, being 1st to go back to a country after we dropped 2 atomic bombs on it is something, going to the North Pole.

As a child I believed the ghost stories came with me that the spirits the saints and the demons were things only my eyes could see, a gift and a curse. The old oak tree by the pond had a name. I don't know if my parents generation named the tree or many generations before them but the tree was called Stands Firm. Stands was his first name of course and often I would sit at his base praying for the darkness to be lifted. The Peak was notorious for more than just its haunting aesthetic; people were known to go missing here. Many locals believed paranormal forces were the cause, others dismissed it as unfortunate souls lost on the trail. The breeze pinched Eric’s cheeks as he scrambled over a slope. The young brawny man was a hiking enthusiast, often spending his free time in the wilderness. He enjoyed these weekend escapes, giving him a break from his dull accounting job back in the city. He’d pack his essentials and then head out into a remote area; a lush woodland, vast desert, open plains, you name it. But out of all these expeditions and activities, hiking was his favorite. Eric had made a lot of good memories on his treks; and a lot of unpleasant memories as well
