Why Babies Fall Asleep While Breastfeeding?
You might be wondering why your baby falls asleep while nursing; and you might be asking yourself if it is okay. Well, it is perfectly a normal behavior of a newborn, especially if the feeding made her full and satisfied. If baby finds it troublesome to stay awake during feeding, it’s still normal. Early on, baby’s need for sleep is often greater than her need for food. Why, because newborns have small stomachs and even only five minutes of feeding can satisfy them.
Falling asleep while baby is being nursed shouldn’t be a big issue. She might want to be fed a bit here and there for a few minutes, fall asleep, then wake up and ask to be fed again in another few minutes. If you are not comfortable with baby’s feeding schedule, you can follow the techniques developed by other moms. However, you should remember that baby should get the “hind milk”. This is the fatty milk that baby gets as your breast becomes empty. So you need to keep nursing by offering your breast as often as possible to prevent your milk supply from dropping.
Sometimes baby falls asleep in early feeding time because of shallow latch. Latch is the way baby attaches to your breast to nurse. When latch is shallow as her mouth is not very well attached to your nipple, your milk flow becomes slow and baby might lose interest and fall asleep.

Sans.
