I want to make a device that will drop into a 1-wire network and provide temp readings just like DS18B20 sensor. But this device would allow you to connect a Thermocouple, Thermistor or RTD. Device would need to emulate a DS18B20 so that it could be read by the same code we have that reads current DS18B20 sensors. Device needs to run from 5V. This job consists of determining the best microcontroller and ADC for the job, would prefer something from the Atmel or Microchip line. Schematic Layout PCB Layout Software to run on the device PCB Layout needs to be done in Eagle or Altium PCB will be ordered and the device fully tested before final milestone is released

Hi, I am Geo, from India. In one of our previous project, we got chance to work with a US based company Page&Pedersen Inc and successfully designed & delivered a high accurate Temperature & Ph reading & logging devices. In that cases the temperature is read through either a RTD or TC. After that we received new orders for their new logging devices. Here I believe, you require such a temperature monitoring device and the data required to transfer with a master controller (through just a single pin), such a way that a DS18b20 sensor works. Hope the DO pin (output) should have in the logic level itself (5V. (or a level shifted out is required for more distance communication). Also the temperature range is same as the DS18b20 ( -55 to 150) @ 0.5C steps. . We can design such a product according to your requirement. Hoping to hear more from you. Regards, Geo

Hi, I am familiar with ds18b20 and 1-Wire protocol . This project can be implemented on Atmega. As ADC can use either the built ADC, if not require high accuracy. Or ADC like ads12xx for high precision. PCB is designed in the Eagle. The program is written in C.

Hello, if you don't have space limitations Arduino will best serve the job, i will program the arduino to get the data from k-type thermo couple and will output the data to to a single wire just as DS18B20 or if you do't want to use arduino (arduino is open source i can also arrange the demo) then any meaga series AVR (e.g ATMEGA8) can be used or to keep it very simple you can use AT89c2051/ AT89c8051 with ADC0804. Nice project. I have designed a one wire device, but not for temperature. I have over thirty years of experience in mixed signal design and I think this would be a fun challenge! For me it would be either an Atmel, or some other (lower power probably) ARM-Cortex-M series processor. I don't do Microchip MCU designs. I would be glad to help you with the board design. I can do this in Altium designer and one of the microchip controllers. It depends on what is the resolution do you need on the ADC and what other features do you require from the controller. Is the signal processing from the thermal sensing unit already in place or is it going to be part of the board ?
