Contest Brief

I am looking for a resume template design that incorporates themes/designs found in my attached "WCF" logo aka.(engineering, ideas, tools, ect). Perhaps use some engineering/electrical schematic symbols in the design or some other subtle feature to imply my field/interest in such a manner.

I have a current resume that I would like to modernize, and include my logo/or similar in the design. I currently work on container ships as a Marine Engineer and would be seeking engineering positions in the future. My current resume has the logo of the company/organization that mention, which I think is a nice visual, and would be inclined to keep something similar in future designs. I need to get this organized onto fewer pages as well. I have attached the resume and logo to the project for reference. I am open to any other advice or ideas. Looking forward to your submissions, and I will provide useful feedback in timely manner.

I need a format that I can easily edit in the future, so .docx might be best unless there is something else that is easier.

Thank you, Clay

I'm interested to join but it seems the contest has been dormant for some time. A little direction on the design would be most helpful, e.g., a few examples of CVs the client wants.

I have extended the project, since I have not been able to give much feedback during the initial time. I will review the entries, and give some feedback as to where everyone's design stands. Thank you for your time so far. Clay.

Hi Clay, please check my entry #56 which is done in Word (.docx) and is fully editable. I can make as many edits as you need to get it perfect for you. If this design/layout doesn't work, I can create another one for you? Can you let me know your feedback on my entry please? As per your description I have fitted all your information onto 2 pages with your WCF logo, company logos and a few electrical symbols (I think)! I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Jen

    Hello,

I've had a look at your CV and rather than attempt to rewrite it, I thought that I would get your thoughts and maybe find out whether you are looking for a shore-based job or continue as crew. I am a professional CV writer and have both read and written hundreds of CVs. I write CVs as marketing documents with only one objective and that is to get my clients sitting in front of an employer. ( I have been a Citibank HR SVP as well as a Director of American Marine, so I understand your world). You seem to be very fond of logos etc but making a CV look like a Christmas Tree will not get you in front on new employers. The way you have set out your CV highlights the fact that you stay in one job for about 12 months and I feel that you should consider a complete re-think of the CV. Having your own logo is not only very unusual (I have only seen that once before) but as a psychologist, it suggests a big ego which may scare-off some prospective employers.

I agree with the list of data vs selling myself and feel this is good input. Also, the job looking like I move companies often is something I have known and need to find a way to avoid that being the perspective. Since I really work for the MEBA union and we are hired by many different big name companies to operate (Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, APL, Matson, ect.) so it gives that appearance. Until you get a permanent position as 1st engineer or Chief engineer you will most likely be bouncing around as the jobs open up as people take vacation. I also plan on condensing all the job descriptions down since there is a lot of redundancy. Thank you for the input/comments.

BTW, before completing a CV for you, I would like a photo and would need to talk to you. Whatever happens, good luck in your career. Finally, don't major on the design but on the words. I can see that you are an Analytical and see a CV as a list of data. It is about 'selling' yourself and not just sharing data! R

Good evening, I would be glad to help and create a cool and well-designed Resume. But I need 1 detail: may I propose you other format (not .docx), which is simle to edit? You do not need to obtain new skills, it's very simple

As long as it is easy to transfer format to .docx or whatever format a resume would need to be submitted in.

Actually I'm a bit confused because you need a resume with a lesser page (assuming 2 pages and your current resume stretch to page 3) but with that many experience, there's no way I can put it all in 1 page. And do you like the layout to be more minimalist or with some nice design as well?

I am more interested in the resume template itself, and I can work to fit the data down. There is some redundancy in the work descriptions that could be summarized I believe, but I should be able to do that work with a good creative template to use.
